Why Green Tea Could Be a Crucial Addition to Your Coffee Routine

green tea and coffee

Let’s be real here. Coffee drinkers love their coffee, and most do not want to give up the habit. At Steep Into It, we love our coffee too! So instead of ditching the coffee habit and missing out on the great energy and productivity benefits of this delicious morning beverage, how about we enhance our coffee habits to minimize the negative side effects?

Jitters, anxiety, sleep problems? We’ve all suffered from some negative side effects of coffee consumption, but did you know that green tea can help to offset some of these negative side effects? Here's why you should add green tea to your coffee routine:

  • Caffeine - Green tea does have small amounts of caffeine, less than half of a standard cup of coffee. So once the morning rush from the coffee wears off, you can still get a small pick me up from the caffeine in green tea.
  • L-Theanine - An amino acid found at high amounts in green tea, L-theanine promotes a calming effect in the brain, which is perfect to balance out the jitters and anxiety than can accompany coffee consumption.
  • Antioxidants - Green tea is chock-full of powerful antioxidants that can counteract oxidative stress (i.e. inflammation) in the body, especially in the brain. This can help reduce fatigue, brain fog and even anxiety, and even help to enhance memory!
  • Energy Balance - According to Eastern Chinese Medicine, coffee promotes stimulating "warming" energy in the body, however, green tea promotes a relaxing "cooling" energy in the body. Take this for what you will, but drinking green tea after coffee can help to "balance out" your body's energy to help you feel more level.
